FAITHFUL BLOGGING PROMPT #4: WHAT VERSION OF THE BIBLE DO I READ?

What version of the Bible do you read and why?

Right now I'm reading the New Living Translation. Normally I read KJV. I needed a new Bible because my other one was falling apart. I got the Bible I have now at a garage sale that my aunt was having. It happened to be the NLT version and I fell in love with it. I like that the wording is translated in such a way that it's like I'm reading a really really good story. I also like that it makes scripture understandable. Overall, I read this version because it makes the scriptures very practical. I'm sticking with this version for the time being but I do reference the KJV just to see what how the original text reads.

  1. I read the NLT as well. Growing up, all I ever read in church was the KJV but it was so hard to read, so I rarely bothered. When I began to seek Christ as an adult, I bought the NLT. It was so much easier to read for sure! For Bible studies, I go back and forth between the NLT and NIV (New Living Translation) but I stick with NLT for the most part.

  2. I like the NLT too. It breaks things down better for me to understand. And even reading the KJV is not the "original" version. None of us have access to the original word.
